OBDSTAR G3 Cannot Start Up Solution (Replace U17 and L8 Components)

If the OBDSTAR X300 Classic G3 fails to turn on normally, how to solve it?

The possible cause is that the U17 and L8 are damaged and causing a short circuit. Please follow the guide below to detect the resistance and repair the device by replacing U17 and L8 components.

The solution:

Step 1: Remove the Outer Shell

Carefully take off the rubber protective case of X300 Classic G3.

Then, use a screwdriver to loosen and remove the fixed hex screws securing the back cover.

Step 2: Disconnect the Battery

Open the back cover

Press down on the battery connector clip and pull out the battery connector to safely disconnect power.

Step 3: Test for Short Circuit

Set your multimeter to the ohms (Ω) range

Measure the resistance across both terminals of capacitor C75.

  • A reading of approximately 0Ωindicates a short circuit.
  • This suggests that components U17 and L8 may be damaged and need replacement.

Step 4: Remove Damaged U17 and L8

Use a soldering iron or a hot air rework station (set to 350 ± 10°C)

Carefully desolder and remove the damaged U17 and L8 components

Replace L8 with a 1μH inductor of compatible size and rating.

Step 5: Confirm Repair

After replacing the components, recheck capacitor C75 using the multimeter.

  • A proper reading should be around 1.36kΩ, confirming the short circuit has been fixed.

Step 6: Reassemble and Test

Reconnect the battery connector

Reinstall the back cover and power on the OBDSTAR X300 Classic G3 Key Programmer.

If it starts normally, the repair was successful.

Step 7: Reinstall Back Cover

Secure the back cover with screws and reattach the rubber protective case.
