In this guide, we’ll demonstrate how to program a smart key for a 2024 Volvo XC40 using the Lonsdor K518 Pro key programmer.
Preparation:
- 2024 Volvo XC40 vehicle
- Two car keys (one original and one new key)
- Lonsdor KPROG Adapter
- Lonsdor K518 Pro
Step-by-Step Guide:
1.Accessing the CEM Module
Locate the CEM (Central Electronic Module) under the steering wheel.
Carefully disassemble the CEM from its housing.
Remove the white box cover (which has three ports).
2.Preparing the CEM Board for Connection
Once the CEM board is exposed, solder the wires as indicated in the Lonsdor K518 Pro’s operation menu.
Connect the board to the KPROG Adapter using the correct wiring configuration.
3.Connecting to Lonsdor K518 Pro
Connection Path:
Immo & Remote → Volvo → XC60 (2022-) → Program Smart Key → Operation Guide
(Note: Since the XC40 menu isn’t yet updated, the XC60 option can be used as a workaround, as they share the same module type with three plugs.)
Ensure the wires are soldered to the correct points (refer to the circled spots in the guide).
Match the chip type as required.
4.Proper Cable Connection
Connect the cables to the CEM board according to the reference image.
Avoid excessively long cables to prevent signal interference.
Plug in the power supply to the KPROG-2 Adapter.
5.Reading CEM Data
Select “Read CEM Data” in the K518 Pro menu.
Save the CEM data by entering a filename when prompted.
6.Adding a New Smart Key
Choose “Add Smart Key” and select the second option to load the CEM security code.
Load the previously saved XC40 2024 CEM data.
7.Programming the Keys
Prepare all keys to be programmed (current key count: 2).
The system will clear all existing keys before programming.
The key count will reset to 0, indicating readiness for new key programming.
8.Finalizing Key Programming
Place the new key inside the armrest box for programming.
Once the first key is successfully programmed, repeat the process for the second key.
9.Testing the Keys
After programming, test both keys to ensure they work properly.
Verification: Both keys should now start the vehicle and operate remote functions.
