Background:
When installing a used Mercedes-Benz Transmission Control Unit (TCU), the immobilizer data embedded in the module must be fully erased before it can be reused. This process, known as virginization, is a mandatory step. Once completed, the module can either be programmed online or personalized (data transfer) using the original manufacturer tool.
1.Limitations of Traditional Methods (Open-Cover & Soldering):
Currently, resetting FBS4 (VGS4-0-NAG2) 7-speed TCMs typically requires invasive procedures such as cutting open the shell or soldering directly to circuit board components.
These methods are not only technically demanding but also carry a high risk of irreversible module damage.
They require exceptional precision and steady hands.
Even a minor error can result in complete hardware failure, leading to expensive replacements.
2.Advantages of New OBD Virginization Solution (No Cutting & No Soldering):
The upcoming OBDSTAR solution eliminates the need for any physical intrusion—no cutting, no soldering.
Through either OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) or BENCH mode, technicians can reset used FBS3 (including VGS2 / VGS3-NAG2) and FBS4 (VGS4-0-NAG2) TCMs to a factory-fresh state.
After reading the original vehicle ECU data and completing the personalization process, no online programming is required.
The module can be installed directly into the vehicle, allowing for an immediate engine start.
This new workflow significantly improves efficiency in the workshop while completely removing the physical risks associated with traditional invasive methods.
