The Problem
When attempting to read a VW Transporter 2.0 equipped with a Delphi DCM6.2V ECU via OBD using Autotuner, the tool successfully reads the ECU ID but fails to establish a full connection. Instead, it throws “Initialization Error 02.”
(Note: This issue is also common on VW Crafter vehicles).
The Solutions
If you encounter this error, try the following two troubleshooting steps:
- Cycle the Ignition:During the ECU initialization process, turn the ignition completely OFF, wait 3 seconds, and then turn it back ON.
- Check for Aftermarket Alarms:Inspect the vehicle for any aftermarket security systems or alarms. If found, temporarily bypass or disable them and try reading the ECU again.
Success Report
The issue has been resolved! In this case, the root cause was an aftermarket alarm installed on the vehicle. The alarm system was actively blocking engine communications via the CAN bus.
Once the alarm was deactivated, ODIS Online access was restored, the firmware update was completed, and Autotuner ECU Tuning Tool successfully connected to the ECU.
