Artidiag 600S arrives in its own dedicated carrying case, which is always a welcome addition for keeping the garage organized. Out of the box, the tool features a nice, chunky, ruggedized design that feels substantial in the hand and looks like it can easily handle the occasional workshop drop.
It is important to note its physical setup: this is a fully wired unit, meaning there is no Bluetooth connectivity here. It also lacks a handle or clip on the back, so you’ll be resting it on your lap or the dashboard while working.
One quick tip before you get started: First-time use does require you to register the tool and run a quick software update over Wi-Fi. It only takes a couple of minutes, but it’s something to keep in mind so you aren’t caught off guard when you’re ready to dive into your first diagnostic job.
Putting it to the Test: Diagnosing a “Check Anti-Pollution” Fault
Main test subject today is a 2018/2019 Vauxhall Vivaro B (built at the Luton plant). The dashboard is throwing a stubborn “Check Anti-Pollution System” warning light. On modern diesel vans, an anti-pollution warning could mean absolutely anything—and it’s often accompanied by generic “Service Required” or “Check Injection System” messages. To find the root cause, we need a scan tool to look into the modules.
Step 1: Vehicle Identification via Auto VIN
Once connected to the OBD port inside the panel, the tool’s Auto VIN search kicked in. Because these vans are a shared platform, the scanner offered choices across GM, Holden, and Opel. Selected Opel, and it successfully identified the vehicle profile as a 2019 Vivaro B.
Step 2: The Cross-Brand Diagnostics Trick
When dealing with cross-branded platform vehicles like this, a seasoned mechanic’s trick is to scan the vehicle under multiple brand profiles.
First, ran an Auto Scan under the Opel software. The scanner was incredibly quick, hitting 100% complete in seconds. It pulled up a massive cascade of fault codes, including:
- Cylinder 3 Injector Circuit
- Exhaust Pressure Sensor Circuit
- Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor
- Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor
- System Voltage Faults
- Glow Plug Relay Circuit
- Turbocharger Bypass Solenoid
Diagnostic Tip: Because many of these codes pointed to system voltage drops, best move here was to clear the fault codes entirely and take the van out for at least a one-hour test drive to see which hard faults actually return. Never start replacing expensive sensors based on low-voltage ghost codes!
After clearing the codes, backed out and scanned the vehicle again—this time identifying it natively as a Renault Traffic 3 (using the R9M engine profile). Scanning via the native Renault database sometimes yields more accurate fault definitions or exposes modules that generic profiles miss. Interestingly, while the injection system read completely clean (zero fault codes) after our clear, the stubborn warning lights remained illuminated on the dashboard. This brought us directly to the tool’s major limitation.
Live Data Streams & Special Functions
Where Topdon Artidiag600S punches way above its weight class is in its live data streaming capabilities, brought up the airflow and boost pressure streams and started the vehicle up.
The numbers responded instantly as we increased the engine revs. Having real-time access to these streams is invaluable for diagnosing complex correlation issues—such as verifying boost leaks, air leaks, split intercooler pipes, or cracked intake tracts. Also tested the digital switch inputs; pressing the clutch pedal down instantly updated the tool’s status from “Released” to “Pressed,” proving the tool’s live input monitoring works flawlessly.
Key Software Features:
- Data Reporting: You can save a complete live data report snapshot and email it directly to yourself or a customer. It provides a clean, printable digital page of all your sensor numbers at that exact moment.
- Hot / Special Functions: For a budget tool, it packs essential service resets including Oil Life Resets, Component Learning, DPF Pressure Sensor Adaptation, and manual DPF Regeneration / Reset functions.
The Limitations: What It Can’t Do
Every budget tool has its limits. While testing van, Artidiag600S was unable to communicate with or scan the UREA DOS module—which handles the vehicle’s AdBlue / Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) emissions system. Given that “Check Anti-Pollution” light stayed on despite a clear engine code log, the fault almost certainly resides deep inside the AdBlue system, which this tool unfortunately cannot access.
